Scouting for that bag that will perform?

I’ve carried these bags for years and my original totes are still going strong. During the summer, I usually have one of the larger totes packed up with towels and sunscreen, ready to go. If you’re like me and lose your keys in your purse, the little cosmetic bags are the perfect home for the essentials you don’t want to have to dig around to find.

Trend Alert: PRINTED SHORTS!

Animal Prints. Florals. Dots. Stripes.

Have you noticed all the printed shorts around the mall? I’m spotting them everywhere in varying lengths and styles.  

Here are just a few finds from Francesca’s Collections, dELiA*s  and The Limited. 

These two pairs had just arrived when I popped into Francesca’s Collections (Level 4)!  Bring out any of the colors in a multi-hued striped pair like these by adding a tee or tank in one of the colors featured or finish with a white top. Just about any color tee or tank will work with a floral print like this one.

This neutral pair is subtle and stands out all at once! Dress up a style like this one with a jacket and sandals or pair them with a tank and flip-flops for a more casual vibe.

GREEN WEEK: TOMS Shoes at Nordstrom!

Our Green themed week continues with a look at TOMS shoes, available at Nordstrom. TOMS has a focus on giving back and on being environmentally friendly!

The TOMS collections include styles that are are made from sustainable and vegan materials. This is the Classic Earthwise Slip-On. It’s made from sustainable materials and has a recycled rubber sole.

Plus, according to TOMS, ”All of our shoe boxes are made from 80% recycled post-consumer waste and are printed with soy ink.” The company is perhaps most known for its  One for One campaign. TOMS donates a new pair of shoes to a child in need for EVERY pair purchased.

Her Coach wedges, accented in lime, are a Nordstrom find.  Bailey’s decision to wear the wedges on this day wasn’t just about her outfit. Since she was out shopping with her mom, who is on the shorter side, she purposely went for a smaller heel.

Describe your style: 

I would say it is fairly eclectic. I like classic with a combination of sharp and interesting. I don’t like to be too trendy. I just like things that are a little more classic and timeless.

What trends are you most excited about for the season?

I like all the bright colors. I like the flowy tops. I’m just excited not to wear winter clothes — I’m done!

What is your favorite store at Towson Town Center and why?

Nordstrom —  the variety of clothing that they have and the customer service and I get good points! (She is referring to the Nordstrom credit card.)

If you could go back in time to any decade to experience the fashion of the time, which one would you choose and why?

The ’20s. This is when women were first starting to show their knees and not be as modest. They really used their styes to embrace their creativity and personality more than they had in the past. The haircuts are phenomenal. Love the dresses.

Sparkle at the PROM!

On the prowl for the perfect prom dress?

I’m excited to report that there isn’t a single IT style! I’m seeing short dresses, long gowns, hi-lo hemlines, single shoulder, strapless, high wattage sparkle and just about every color under the sun. The same goes for price points!

Add definition at the waist with belted looks, as seen on the silver and aqua hi-lo dress, draw attention to the legs with a shorter  look, pair some timeless tulle with gold sparkle or go for a more understated glam style.

At Macy’s, you’ll find a wide range of styles and colors in a section dedicated to Prom 2013! The lavender gown features a ruffled hi-lo detail that will standout on the dance floor! Many of the prom dresses are already marked down.

At Macy’s, hi-lo hemlines, short looks and floor length gowns all share center stage!  The color options and cuts seem endless. With so many styles to scope out, you may want to start by honing in on a specific style or color.  Think about if you want major sequins? A single shoulder? A Hi-lo hemline? Lace?

Go O’s! The latest ways to show your Orioles Spirit from The Sport Shop!

The hottest color right now at The Sport Shop is ORANGE!

 I popped in to The Sport Shop to get some ideas on fun ways to strut some O’s spirit!

The baseball cap above is a new design worn by O’s players for batting practice. The mesh feel allows for better air flow.

The Machado Jersey (#13 below) is expected to be a hot item this year!  In store, you’ll find something for everyone in the family!

GURU Style Star: Kristen Luther

I never would have thought about pairing peach and lavender until I saw Kristen Luther the other night at the mall. Check out how the peach pops out from the lavender cardi!

This week’s GURU Style Star exudes spring with her peach tee from American Eagle, topped with a lavender sweater and a floral scarf. Her scarf and skinny jeans are also from American Eagle. Kristen’s gorgeous boots, with gold detailing, are by Vince Camuto and from Macy’s. Kristen’s bracelet is from Pandora.  She calls her style, “classy, outgoing and comfortable.”

Describe your style. 

I feel like everyday it’s a little bit different. I’m not afraid to wear combat boots and shorts, but I do always like to have one thing that is colorful.

Why is that?

I feel like it brightens my day if there is color…  It reminds me of spring and summer, which are my favorite.

Do you like trying on different outfits or do you dread it? 

I love it. I think it’s so fun to go though and try to create a new outfit out of a bunch of different pieces that you have. I love to give people fashion advice and help them pick out their outfits. I like it when I feel my best in what I’m wearing. I like when other people wear something that makes them feel confident.

If I gave you $5,000 and sent you on a shopping spree at the mall, what would you buy? 

First, I’d go to Free People and quite possibly spend all of it there. But if I didn’t, I would go to Steve Madden and buy new shoes to match every outfit that I own.

Black & White BOLD Styles from Forever 21!

Black and White looks are big this spring!

 The look takes on a bold tone at Forever 21 with stripes, floral, animal and graphic prints. Plus, a black and white palate creates endless options for adding pops of color with shoes and accessories!

Tops like these will stand out against a bright pair of skinny jeans, cropped pants or shorts. Or, go for pattern play and mix in a contrasting black and white print, such as a floral.

A floral skirt like this one is a striking finish to a black and white striped top. Add a statement accessory or shoes in a bright color to complete the look.

Along with black and white patterned pieces, it’s also fun to add your own twist to the trend by pairing black and white separates. Studs, as seen on the standout vest below, are also a key trend for spring. I can see layering  the vest over a bright colored tank and pairing the tops with a black and white printed bottom, such as the floral skirt above.

Solid black shorts are also a summer staple. The sailor vibe with the gold buttons make this pair stand out. If you’re going for a black and white look, add on a patterned top or a crisp white tank or tee.

You’ll also find a black and cream take on the black and white trend. Check out the Geo Print Peplum Dress. It features a scoop neck and back. This is the kind of dress that you can wear endless ways. Pair with booties and a cropped jacket while it’s still chilly, try adding a pop of color with bright pumps and as the temps climb — go for sandals in any color!  A style like this one also become a blank canvas for your favorite statement necklace.
