My search for OUTFITS UNDER $50!

This is prime HUNTING season!  Bargain hunting!

You just may find that expensive pair of boots, dress or top that you flirted with buying a few months ago now for a fraction of the price!  It is the best time of the season to spice up your winter wardrobe. There are still plenty of chilly days left.

I hit Francesca’s Collections and Ann Taylor, both on Level 4.  My timing could not have been better. On the day that I popped in, I encountered savings on top of savings.

With an additional 30% off on clearance items at Francesca’s Collections on the day I was there, this graphic print dress and booties rang up to just under $50 before tax!  I couldn’t get over the price of the dress — just $17.49 after the 30% off.

This is a dress you can wear year-round. Pair it now with a fitted cropped blazer or cardigan and by itself as we move into warmer weather.

Here’s a closer look at the booties. They were on sale for $44.98 with 30% off on top, bringing them down to $31.49.

This fab dress also came down to $17.49 after the additional 30% off.  This is the kind of dress that you should snag even if you don’t know when you’ll wear it. The next time you have an evening event, you’re set! The velvety material is timeless and luxe. Add a little black pair of suede booties or tall boots.

With a dress like this one, I would go bold on the earrings or bracelet.  A necklace could take away from the look. The deep greens in this cuff ($18) go well with the navy and black in the dress.

At Ann Taylor, I spotted a dress that I had featured in a blog post back when it was full price. It started at $98 then dropped to $59.99, and on the day I found it on the clearance rack, it was an additional 40% off!  The total: $35.99! 4th of July Entertaining POTTERY BARN Style! Plus, lots of summer items are on SALE!

I can’t wait to show you what I found there the other day! It’s not only perfect for July 4th, but is a conversation piece you’ll have for years to come — that is if your kids don’t hijack it for their stuffed animals!  This blue tabletop adirondack chair is a napkin holder!

The PERFECT Jeans for your Body! Tips from Levi’s

When I went into Levi’s (Level 2) to ask what styles of jeans work best on different body types, I couldn’t believe what I learned!

I think I must have asked three times just to be sure that I heard correctly what I’m about to tell you ….

According to store manager, Zach Deal, “All jeans can look good on ALL body types!”

Zach explains that’s because Levi’s takes a customized approach when it comes to a woman’s curves.

Let’s say you want a pair of skinny jeans. Whether you’re a size 2 or 12, you can select from a Slight Curve, Demi Curve or Bold Curve design.  Here’s a look at the Modern Skinny style in each Curve cut.

Levi’s also takes the guesswork out of figuring out which curve cut is right for you. You can get measured right in the store. It only takes a couple minutes. An associate will measure your waist and hips over the top of your clothes. The difference between the two numbers helps to determine which curve you should try.

Someone wearing a Slight Curve style will have the least amount of difference between waist and hip measurements and have more of a straight shape.   Zach says most women fall into the Demi Curve category.

The Bold Curve is cut smaller at the waist and left roomier in the seat.  Sometimes women who wear this cut will find that their jeans are typically too tight in the seat and gap at the waist.

Zach says that women will often assume that they should wear the Bold Curve if they have a thicker build. That’s not always the case. It’s not about size but instead is based on curves.

The three curve designs are available in store on skinny, boot cut skinny and straight jean styles.  If you pop into Levi’s, check out the new ankle length skinnies. They’re perfect for summer and can be cuffed and worn as capris. The white ones are calling my name.

Men can also select from different styles and fits.

Beyond finding out about the three curve cuts for women, I also learned something else new! Zach explains that Levi’s, which are made from a durable cotton, can be worn many times before washing. If you get a small stain on your jeans before you’re ready to wash them, he recommends a spot clean. If they need just a little freshening, Zach suggests hanging them outside for a bit or putting them in a plastic bag in your freezer. When you do wash your Levi’s, wash them inside out in cold water and never put them in the dryer.

PRETTY in PASTELS, as SEEN on CELEBS! Plus, enter-to-win a $50 Shop Etc. Mall Gift Card!

Have you noticed all the SWEET SORBET HUES out there?

Bright colors aren’t the only ones making a big hit. So, too are the PRETTY PASTELS.

Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba and Elizabeth Olsen are going for colors like mint green, pale pink and sunny yellow.  Peach and lavender are also getting play on the fashion scene.

I scoped out the mall for similar shades and found a rainbow of pastels out there.  I would bet the price tags on my finds are a fraction of the cost of what the celebs are wearing! 

Let’s start at Delia’s (Level 1), where you can find top trends without paying top dollar.  Here, a mint green top ($26.50) is layered over a peach tank ($15.50) and paired with floral shorts ($29.50). If short-shorts aren’t your style, add on a crisp white skinny jean or cropped pant. Or, bring in anther pastel hue on the bottom.

Here’s another look at Delia’s. A delicate, thin peach top ($29.50) is layered over a bold, bright bandeau ($9.50) and worn with pastel floral shorts ($29.50). You can also tone down the look with a nude or white cami. A skinny jean or cropped pant would also look great with this top!

I found a similar shade of yellow to what Elizabeth Olsen is wearing at Ann Taylor (Level 4). The lace detailing takes the Ann Taylor tee ($48) from simple to stunning!

Over at Free People (Level 4), you’ll find lots of softer shades. This delicate floral lace tunic ($108) is shown with a bandeau ($28), letting some skin show. You can also wear a full length cami underneath.  The tunic is paired with the Undersea pant in mauve ($168).

Meet the Miles of Lace dress. This peach mini is $128. Wear it solo or treat it as a tunic and add on a pair of leggings. Try a contrasting pastel hue.

I kept turning my attention to admire this hard-shelled option. I’ve only had soft suitcases and can now see the draw to this variety. When you open up this case, there is a 50/50 packing split, giving you the ability to organize your belongings into two groupings.  It’s far lighter in weight then the hard-shell cases of years ago, and the shell does have some flexibility to it. Go for the Godiva!

Imagine 4800 large strawberries getting dipped in rich, premium chocolate.

That’s what the staff at Godiva (Level 3) at Towson Town Center will be making up through Valentine’s Day!

The chocolate dipped strawberries, available in milk, dark and white chocolate, are a Godiva signature Valentine’s Day delicacy. They’re $50 for a half dozen and are presented in a lovely box.

Since Godiva only uses the freshest ingredients without preservatives, the dipped strawberries must be consumed the day you bring them home. I think it would be pure torture to not devour them anyway!

If you’re interested in this classic, you can reserve them in advance and pick them up on Valentine’s Day.  Here’s one more tease for your taste buds before I show you more of the temptations.

In addition to pre-packaged options at EVERY price point, you can create your own signature gift for your sweetheart and include the flavors you (I mean your recipient) will love.

Design Your Own Collection in a Red Satin Box! ($50)

For $50, you can fill a red souvenir, Satin Heart Gift Box with about 15 pieces, depending on the sizes you select.  Or, you can fill a paper, Ballotin Gift Box with 8, 16, or 32 pieces ($18, $32 and $60). So, how do you know what to put inside your box? Godiva has a little cheat sheet at the ready, with descriptions of Valentine’s Day favorites, classic chocolates and truffles. Or, you can splurge in the name of research and buy a few individual pieces. Thanks to Godiva, I tasted a few samples.

The Key Lime Truffle, with key lime ganache surrounded by a dark chocolate shell, is incredible.  I savored every morsel of this tart and sweet combo. I’ve never tried lime with chocolate before and don’t plan to make this a single time experience.

For me, the bite-size Chocolate Éclair Truffle is as satisfying as having a whole pastry. The rich vanilla custard ganache is cradled in a milk chocolate shell with a dark chocolate touch of stringing on top.

I also tried the Chocolate Lava Cake Truffle, made with oozing dark chocolate ganache and liquid fondant. The dark chocolate shell is finished with powdered sugar. I’m glad I saved this bite for last. I didn’t want the flavor to end.

If your sweetheart loves classic milk chocolate, go for the Milk Chocolate Mousse Truffle with a white chocolate heart on top. There are also Valentine’s Day classics like Cherry  Cordials and heart shaped pieces.

If you do go the choose-your-own-chocolate-adventure route and select the satin heart box, it is reusable. “So when you empty your heart, you can refill it the next time,” quips manager Jason Shoubin. If you bring back the box to refill for another special occasion or an unexpected surprise, you’ll only pay for the price of the individual chocolates.

Now for a look at some of the pre-packaged gifts… These small heart boxes run just $6 for 6 pieces.
