It’s a tough call. Preakness Fashionistas — I want to hear from you on this one. Do you start with the hat and then find the dress… or do you find a dress first?

Sparkle at the PROM!

On the prowl for the perfect prom dress?

I’m excited to report that there isn’t a single IT style! I’m seeing short dresses, long gowns, hi-lo hemlines, single shoulder, strapless, high wattage sparkle and just about every color under the sun. The same goes for price points!

Add definition at the waist with belted looks, as seen on the silver and aqua hi-lo dress, draw attention to the legs with a shorter  look, pair some timeless tulle with gold sparkle or go for a more understated glam style.

At Macy’s, you’ll find a wide range of styles and colors in a section dedicated to Prom 2013! The lavender gown features a ruffled hi-lo detail that will standout on the dance floor! Many of the prom dresses are already marked down.

At Macy’s, hi-lo hemlines, short looks and floor length gowns all share center stage!  The color options and cuts seem endless. With so many styles to scope out, you may want to start by honing in on a specific style or color.  Think about if you want major sequins? A single shoulder? A Hi-lo hemline? Lace?

Caché (Level 4) also has an entire section dedicated to prom and other special occasion styles. Black and white paired together isn’t just creating a stir in daytime looks. It’s also a winning combo for the prom. The Ying & Yang Gown, is enunciated with single shoulder detail, a curved rhinestone seam down the front and flattering ruching.

Easter Looks for the Kids! Plus, details on our Easter Sweepstakes!

With all the happy hues, sweet prints and plaids, it’s tough to pick just one Easter outfit for the kids!  

I showed Easter looks earlier this week on FOX45 Morning News, with the assistance of six adorable models — three girls and three boys!

Here’s a look at the boys’ outfits. Alec is decked out in an outfit from Gymboree. He is wearing a pastel plaid button-down, with a dashing pink tie and linen blend dress pants. The fedora, featuring a band of coordinating colors, completes his look.

Seth is wearing a gingham button-down with khakis from Gap Kids. The touch of teal with the sunwashed slip-on shoes adds an unexpected finish. The color is festive, fun and he’ll be comfortable while searching for Easter eggs!  Isaiah is wearing a Polo Ralph Lauren outfit from Macy’s with a madras plaid button-down, a cable knit sweater vest and kelly green shorts.

From left to right: Samara is wearing a Little Lilly Classic Shift from Lilly Pulitzer in Fiesta Pink Everything Nice. It features lace pockets and side bows. The dress pairs perfectly with the petite version of the Lilly Pulitzer McKim sandals.

Little Copely is in a seersucker dress in Purple Posy from Gymboree.  This dress is all about detail with smocking, a sash and a ribbon flower topped with a gem button.

Nia’s asymmetrical handkerchief dress is from Naartjie Kids. The purple hair band and shoes play off the purple in the floral print.

Festive looks she can also wear to other spring and summer celebrations!

GURU Style Stars: Regina and Christina

Meet this week’s Mother and Daughter GURU Style Stars: Regina and her 16-year-old daughter, Christina!

This mother-daughter duo are excited for an upcoming trip to Italy together. Several pieces from their outfits are from one store at Towson Town Center. Read on for the reveal.

Christina scored all the pieces in her outfit at American Eagle (Level 1). She is wearing a teal top with a keyhole detail on the back, white skinny jeans, a braided belt and platform sandals.

Regina’s khaki jeggings and suede flats are also from American Eagle.  She layered a navy cardi over a fun, graphic print sleeveless top. Her bag is from Macy’s.  I only wish I had asked about her statement hair piece.  (I want one.)

Now for our Q&A…

How does your mom influence your style?

Christina: She keeps it appropriate.

Describe your style:

Christina: I like long skirts and long flowy dresses. I hate to generalize myself, but I like the hipster kind of style.

When it comes time for Regina to answer, her personal stylist, Christina, chimes in first:

Christina: I feel like she tries to keep it young and fresh.

Regina:  I want to be current. I don’t want to look like a 16-year-old, but a little more modern look.

If you could get your mom to try a new style, what would it be? 

Christina:  Ripped up jeans.

And while that’s not Regina’s taste, she says of Christina:

Regina: She keeps me together

Christina: I try to keep my mom hip.  She’s a model mother.

What are you gravitating toward for spring?

Regina:  I was about to head into Michael Kors. I love the brights —  orange, navy, the bright greens.

Christina: The soft, romantic flowy,  flowery styles.

Regina, when it comes to your daughter’s stye, Anything you want to see her wear? 

… Like what she is wearing now. I wish she would wear this look more often. This is very cute. I think sometimes a lot of what she wears is dark. I think she should add more color to her wardrobe.

GURU Style Star: Gary Davis

Meet this week’s GURU Style Star — Gary Davis! He tells me that he likes to mix dressy and casual elements together, such as his dressier coat from Nordstrom paired with a more casual look.

On the evening I met him, he was headed to dinner at Stoney River.  Gary’s scarf is also from Nordstrom.

Gary, who works in finance, tells me that he will swap out a key piece or two to take him from the office to an evening out. For after hours, he may continue to wear a suit, but he’ll replace the button-down and tie with a sweater or a dressier t-shirt.

If I gave you $1000 to spend at the mall, what would you buy?

I’d probably get myself a Canali suit at Nordstrom.

What are your favorite stores at the mall?

It would be between Nordstrom and Macy’s. I like both of them. I buy a lot at both places. I mix it up.

What celebrities do you admire for their style?

George Clooney I think he has really good style. Hugh Jackman. I think both of those guys really have good style.

Get Ready to Take Cover — Hat Season is Just About Here!

I haven’t always been a hat person. I still remember all the years of being forced to wear one to school as a kid.

Now, I can’t get enough of them!

I’m loving the selection of hats throughout the mall. Here are just a few of my favorites!

I spotted this adorable, flower adorned cap at Kokopelli (Level 4).

Over at Francesca’s Collections (Level 4), I’m crazy for this cobalt one! You can pair it with just about any color winter coat!

What FALL TRENDS are you most excited about wearing?

I asked that question to three shoppers on camera and then went on a search to find the items they mentioned. While each of the three women I chatted with named different trends, they all said one thing in common!  Everyone talked about COLOR, COLOR, COLOR!

After talking to the three women, I went to work — to find standout examples of what they mentioned.   

Our first shopper named the color, orange, pointing out it’s especially a fun color with the Orioles doing so well!  She already scored Tory Burch flats in orange. I found these heels at BCBGMAXAZRIA.

FAB Accessory Finds under $50!

You don’t have to splurge to make a statement!

I sleuthed the mall for statement accessories under $50. Some come in way under!

If you’re ever looking for a pop of color, consider Francesca’s Collections (Level 4) your crayon box. It’s one of my first stops whenever I’m looking for a standout necklace to pair with a specific outfit.

I tend to linger by the jewelry and realize I haven’t spent nearly enough time with the bags!  Take a look at these punchy colors!  They’ll feel even cheerier as the temps drop.  The green and orange clutches are $34. The petite hot pink purse is $38, and the yellow wallet is $24.

At Lilly Pulitzer (Level 2), these bangles ($38 each) come in multiple colors. It’s rare when you can find a bangle that can stand on its own. These also look great in a set of three, five or even a stack of seven!  You can start with one and add more here and there.

While in Macy’s looking for accessories for a model to wear for an upcoming Fox 45 fashion segment, this bold piece beckoned me. It didn’t match the model’s outfit, but I had to snap a picture. It’s $30.
