Think loops are a pre-requisite for a belt?
If you’re looking for a little inspiration on how to style belts, take a stroll through White House Black Market (Level 2).
You’ll find them topping cardigans, jackets, dresses, tees — often in unexpected ways. They’re not just about function or even fashion for that matter. Belts are figure flattering. You can use them to draw the eye just where you want it to go.
From top left to right: The belt draws your eye straight to the waist line. The cream cardi over the silver top is a casual daytime look. Just add on a belt and you’re ready to go out. A monochromatic style, such as the gray on gray, is subtle and sophisticated. I never would have thought to add a belt to top the jacket. It injects instant personality into the look.
Here’s a belt before-and-after. The key-hole is striking sans the belt. Your eyes go straight to the shoulders. Add the belt and you can shift the attention.
The lack of loops for a belt can be daunting at first. But, think about it this way. Without loops, you can position the belt wherever is most flattering on you.
