Looking for a way to sizzle this spring? It may be time to shelve that neutral eyeshadow, at least here and there, to try something different.
I popped into Sephora (Level 2) to check out the latest makeup trends. Emerald, Pantone’s designated color of 2013, is taking center stage! Sephora and Pantone, the global authority on color, teamed up to create the limited edition Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection in Emerald.
Inside the store, you’ll find many ways to go green with your makeup look, including eye shadow, mascara and nail polish. Plus, there are fun brush sets and cosmetic cases!
Rachel Gonzalez, an assistant manager, offered to show me how to add some emerald to my makeup repertoire. She paired me with makeup artist, Jason Williams.
Since I was already wearing green, Jason suggested that we go for a subtle look. The Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection features cute colorblocked shadow sets. This is the “Eclipsed” Color Theory Shadow Block. It comes with Emerald Glitter, Olivevine and Amberlight shades.
You can also opt for a more neutral version of the set, with two browns and one green.
For a daytime look, Jason started with a primer, then did Amberlight across my entire lid. He applied a touch of Emerald Glitter to my outer corners. He kept this color to just the corners to make my eyes pop.
Here’s a tip from Jason: Keep the main color to the outer eye area so that it doesn’t close up the eye.
With the bold green, Jason went for a brown liner for my top lid. He suggests that you smudge your liner after you apply it so it doesn’t look like a drawn on line.
You can go from day to night in just a couple steps. Jason added some of the darker green to my crease area and some liner to the lower rims of my eyes to play up the intensity.
You can see more definition for the look for night! Now, I just need to change the outfit!
Rachel and Jason both describe emerald as a universally flattering shade and say it adds excitement and energy to your look!
When it comes to adding a statement shade, like Emerald, you can go as subtle or as bold as you want. Tone it down by blending Emerald shadow with a neutral or you can really amp up the green!
The Sephora +Pantone Collection also features this gift box set. It’s $68 and has a $113 value. The set comes with a similar colorblock eye shadow set, with Emerald, White Asylum, and Crown Blue along with Emerald eye glitter dust, lid stain, eyeliner and highlighting mascara.
If you’re interested in rocking an emerald look for spring, you can always ask an associate to show you how to use a product or two.
If you would like a full makeover, it is FREE with a $50 minimum purchase. You are asked to call ahead to schedule your session. The number is 410.337.7494. You’ll not only leave with a new look but will also learn makeup tips and tricks!
Remember, you can also add a pop of Emerald to your nails with the Sephora + Pantone Collection.

i want one of those polishes. I didn’t see these colors when I stopped in 2 weeks ago
Hi Rebecca- I love the emerald dress you are wearing in these pictures. Can you please tell me where you got it? I am looking for a dress for my son’s baptism that is nursing friendly and that dress would be perfect, plus I think it looks fantastic on you! Thanks!
Courtnay,
Congrats to you! Thanks on the dress. It’s from New York & Company and was a steal! I found it in the fall. It’s a style they’ve carried for a year or two. I can check when I’m in the mall on the weekend to see if they still have anything like it. It came with a fabric belt featuring the same pattern. I usually switch things up and wear another belt with the dress. Thanks for writing! -Rebecca
