GURU Style Star: Gigi Fisher

23 Aug

Meet the latest GURU Style Star, Gigi Fisher!

Gigi, a professional R&B and Funk singer, isn’t one to just wear her clothes and accessories for a season or two. By pairing them in different ways, bringing out packed up treasures from long ago and adding in new finds, she has created a look that is all hers. It’s a pretty safe bet that she’s not ever going to run into someone wearing an identical outfit and accessories. She often starts with basic pieces and then brings in standout accessories to the mix for some POP!

This mom of two is wearing a muted, olive green Levi’s button-down. It almost has a denim look to it. She is pairing it with a khaki skirt by Kenar. Gigi scored her studded, chocolate brown leather belt with an oversized matte gold metal colored plate on Melrose Ave. in LA. Her platform sandals feature a caramel leather band around the ankle and an animal print one across her toes. They’re Steve by Steve Madden.

Her two-toned cuff is a gift from her mother-in-law and her bag is a hand-me-up from her sister.

In some of the snapshots, you can see that Gigi is wearing her purple Marc by Marc Jacobs glasses with a touch of bling. She’s often asked – “Are those really prescription?” The answer – yes!

Here’s our photo shoot and Q&A.

Describe your style:

I think I’m funky – very eclectic.  I don’t really have one thing that I’ll stick to. Just like my skirt is very conservative, I’ll add a funky belt with some funky shoes to make it work. I feel like if you buy a couple basic things, you can always add and make it stylish.

You mentioned that you hold on to treasured accessories and shoes. Tell me about what is vintage “Gigi” in your closet….

My pocketbooks, my belts, my boots. I’ve had a Talbots pocketbook since I was in middle school. I begged my mother for it and she got it for me for Christmas. (Gigi remembers the two-toned leather bag cost more than $200 at the time. It definitely paid off. She’s had it for about 17 years!)

What style advice would you give to other women?

Always be free to be you. If you like something, buy it. If you go back, it may not be there.

How has your style changed over the years? Or has it?

It hasn’t. I’ve always tried to refresh it with a scarf or an accessory or maybe by a fresh jean like I did today. I always pretty much stay the same.

On this shopping afternoon, Gigi scored a pair of fuchsia skinny jeans at Arden B. and may return for a snake-skin patterned second pair.  She is planning to wear them with a graphic print sequined tank for a performance.
