GURU Style Star: Amy Apperson

16 Aug

When it comes to colorblocking, Amy Apperson is a pro! Amy’s outfit is a great example of how you can add your own flair to this trend, by pulling together different colors in unexpected ways and creating your own D-I-Y colorblocked look.

“I’m experimenting with colorblocking, which I think is pretty fun,” shares this week’s GURU Style Star.  Amy scored her Tangerine Tango cardi with purple trim and purple buttons at Francesca’s Collections, where she is an assistant manger.

She’s pairing the sweater with a bright blue pair of stretch skinnies, also from Francesca’s. Her teal and cobalt necklace, outlined in a matte gold colored metal, tie the look together. Just like layering clothing, doing the same with jewelry is a big trend! I really  like how she mixes in a second necklace.

Here is the rest of our Q&A…

Describe your style…
I would say I’m more mod. I like skinny jeans, flats and fitted clothes.
What trend are you most excited about for fall?
I love all the colors that are coming out. I love cardigans. I love boots. I like doing boots with leggings and a long sweater.  Fall is my favorite season for fashion. I feel like you get to wear more because it’s cooler out. You can layer. I feel like in summer you can be a little limited, because it’s hot… you can only wear so much. In the fall you get to layer a lot of different looks.
What’s the most treasured item in your closet?
I think the thing I wore most last fall, I will probably wear the most this fall —a baggy 3-quarter length sleeve cardigan. It’s realy cozy and it goes with everything. I love chunky comfy cardigans and scarves.
Are you surprised that any trends are sticking around?
I’m surprised that neon is still really strong for fall. Not to say I don’t like it. It was really big in summer, and I think of more muted colors for fall. It’s still really present.

Are you the kind of person to try on just one thing and go out the door or more like 25 outfits?

I try on one thing, but I think about it a lot before I put it on. I think about it in the shower. I go through my outfits in my head.

GURU Tip:  If you’re not ready to create your own color blocked look like Amy did, there are lots of tops and dresses out there with colorblocked patterns. Watch for an upcoming post featuring colorblocking for fall!
