GURU STYLE STARS: Erin Simon & Bethany Brown

9 Aug

When I first saw Erin Simon and Bethany Brown at a special pre-opening Friends & Family event at Lilly Pulitzer, I assumed they had come to the event together!

Turns out, before this night the two Lilly fans had never met in person. Erin and Bethany are both bloggers and had e-met in the blog world. They’ve read each other’s lifestyle blogs, talked online and “liked” each other’s posts. When they both turned up at the same event, they recognized each other from their respective blogs.  “We both looked at each other,” says Bethany.  “She said ‘Bethany!’ I said, ‘Erin!’”

Erin’s sweet strapless Lilly frock features a Lilly Toile pattern. She accessorized with a pair of statement coral earrings that she scored in New York, bamboo bangles and completed her look with a pair of cork pumps. Erin first gravitated to Lilly back in high school. She believes her first Lilly purchase was while on Spring Break in Florida.

Bethany, who tells me she wears Lilly nearly everyday, is donning one of her go-to summer dresses. She also has it in blue and in prints. “You just throw on a necklace and bangles and you’re good to go,”  shares Bethany, whose love for Lilly dates back to the late ’90s.  On this night, she added on a pop of sunny yellow with a necklace from J. Crew.  Her twin 10-year-old girls are also Lilly fans.

Here’s our photo session and Q&A.

Describe your style:

ERIN: I would say classic with a girly twist. I love bows. I love ruffles, plaids, pearls…

BETHANY:  My style is pretty classy, pretty conservative. I’m a teacher so I need things that are work appropriate — school appropriate — but I like color. I like unusual color combinations. Kelly green and royal blue together, pink and green — different color combinations. I love jewelry. I love accessorizing with jewelry.

What do you love about Lilly?

ERIN:  I love that whenever you wear Lilly, it always makes you feel good no matter what mood you’re in… It always lightens your mood. It lifts your spirits. Because of the bright, vibrant prints, you can’t help but feel happy.

What do you think it is about Lilly Pulitzer that gives it staying power?

BETHANY:   I think the fact that it’s classic.  You have a winner whenever you have 2-year-olds and 20-year-olds who love the same dress… when daughters want to look just like their mothers and wear the same dress. I just think it’s a timeless look that works for everyone and every age. I think there are generations who have worn Lilly.

Erin & Bethany — you just may inspire me to add a little more Lilly to my life!
