You don’t often hear words like thirst-quenching and coffee used together.
When I stopped into Starbucks the other day and saw a sign for the new Refreshers — iced drinks made with green coffee extract and fruit juice — I had to try one. They come made to order in Cool Lime and Very Berry Hibiscus.
I don’t know about you — but I had never heard of green tree extract. With traditional coffee, it’s first harvested as a green bean and then roasted. For the Refreshers, the flavor is extracted from the beans before they are roasted.
On Starbucks.com I learned, ”Starbucks is using an innovative process to pull the naturally occurring caffeine and other good stuff from 100% green arabica coffee beans before they are roasted. The result is green coffee extract – the natural energy from coffee, but with none of the coffee flavor.”
The Cool Lime Refresher is made out of green coffee extract, lime juice, a fresh slice of lime and water. Here’s a GURU tip: Try adding coconut syrup!
Along with the green coffee extract, the Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher has mixed berry juice, dried blackberries and water. A customer favorite has been adding raspberry syrup.
Manager Nelly Hamer finds that Refreshers are perfect for when your energy drops in the afternoon or if you want a pick-me-up anytime of day.

Love the Lime! Another tidbit about green coffee extract-it’s been known to increase metabolism and help with weight loss! Yeah for Refreshers!! Definite thumbs up!
