Starbucks Refreshers: MY FAVORITE NEW DRINK!

30 Jul

You don’t often hear words like thirst-quenching and coffee used together.

When I stopped into Starbucks the other day and saw a sign for the new Refreshers — iced drinks made with green coffee extract and fruit juice — I had to try one.  They come made to order in Cool Lime and Very Berry Hibiscus.

Cool Lime & Very Berry Hibiscus

I don’t know about you — but I had never heard of green tree extract. With traditional coffee, it’s first harvested as a green bean and then roasted.  For the Refreshers, the flavor is extracted from the beans before they are roasted.

On Starbucks.com I learned, ”Starbucks is using an innovative process to pull the naturally occurring caffeine and other good stuff from 100% green arabica coffee beans before they are roasted. The result is green coffee extract – the natural energy from coffee, but with none of the coffee flavor.”

The Cool Lime Refresher  is made out of  green coffee extract, lime juice, a fresh slice of lime and water.  Here’s a GURU tip: Try adding coconut syrup!

Along with the green coffee extract, the Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher has mixed berry juice, dried blackberries and water.  A customer favorite has been adding raspberry syrup.

The Refreshers also come as Starbucks VIA Refresher instant beverages powder packets, where you just add water. They also come as a sparkling canned beverage in Strawberry Lemonade and Raspberry Pomegranate.

Refreshers also come in VIA  powder packets and cans.

Manager Nelly Hamer finds that Refreshers are perfect for when your energy drops in the afternoon or if you want a pick-me-up anytime of day.

Have you tried the Refreshers yet? Let me know what you think!
